Thank a Teacher Today! 12/17/12

Like many other parents, I drop my children off at school everyday.  I watch as their teachers greet them at the door with a smile and ask them how they are each day.  We have been so fortunate to have had such amazing teachers every year since my children have begun school.  Their previous teachers still take the time to stop and greet them, many times with a hug.  Their love and passion for what they do is always evident - even far beyond the classroom.  As a parent, my appreciation for them and what they do is immeasurable.

Today I am joining hundreds of bloggers around the US in recognizing Thank a Teacher Day.  Created in loving memory of those who lost their lives in Newtown, CT on Friday, we honor, support and give thanks to all of the teachers who protect, support and keep our children safe each day.

Consider doing something special for the teachers in your children's lives today.  Perhaps surprise them with a note of thanks, a cup of coffee, or a bouquet of flowers.  Consider emailing them and offering some of your time to volunteer to help in the classroom or with small duties you can do at home.  And be sure to spread the word to those around you. Teachers truly are unsung heroes.  Let's give them the thanks they so rightly deserve.

Do you have a Twitter account?  If so, join us in tweeting our thanks using the hashtag #ThankATeacher. Follow along and learn how others are thanking the special teachers in their lives.

How are you planning to thank a teacher?  Be sure to leave a comment with your ideas.  Or feel free to let us know what makes the teachers in your children's lives extra special.

Many thanks to fellow blogger Julie from Julieverse.com for the beautiful Thank a Teacher graphic above.
